G4S Parc Prison Unveil Two Teams to Take Part in Charity Football Tournament

Two more teams have now entered the 5-a-side football tournament that we are hosting this Sunday alongside a fun day at Pencoed Comprehensive School. Both the tournament and the fun day will run from 8am-8pm, a full 12 hours, and everyone is welcome.

All funds raised at the event will go directly to local disabled children’s charity, Y Bont. The charity has recently undergone cuts to its funding and now needs to raise the daunting sum of £50,000 to remain open.

And now G4S Parc Prison, located in Bridgend, has announced the two teams it will be entering in the football tournament. The first team will be called Parc Wild Dogs and team two will be an all-girl team known as Parc Wild Cats. Parc Wild Hogs will be captained by Jon Hine and the rest of the team includes:

    • Paul
    • Will
    • Rik
    • Matthew
    • Gary
    • Steve

Jon had the following to say:

“As a company we are proud of all the fundraising we do for various local charities. We play football every lunch time and thought that this would be a perfect event for us to take part in. We have a team with mixed abilities but our main focus will be to enjoy the day and help out Y Bont.

It’s a privilege to be part of an event that raises money not only for children with disabilities, but for the families who also need a lot of support. All children should be able to reach their potential regardless of their abilities or disabilities, so we are very proud to be part of the event and helping the non-profit charity to continue their excellent work.

Our company is always raising money for charity. Our gym department holds events throughout the year for both staff and prisoners to help raise money for various charities. An example of last month’s charity event was a ‘Tour de France’ cycling event where various staff and prisoners cycled the same distance as the cyclists in the Tour de France and raised nearly £900 for Barnados.”

With all the training they do, the Wild Dogs are set to be a strong outfit to compete solidly for 12 hours. Jon said the following about his team:

“We have been training every day and a have very efficient and skilful side, much like Germany but slightly better. We’ll let our tactics unfold on the day, one thing’s for certain we’ll be going hard for the full 12 hours.”

Both of the prison’s teams will undoubtedly provide some solid competition. They won’t be taking any prisoners, that’s for sure!
