Tata Steel enter charity 5 a side football tournament

Tata Steel, the international steel production company, has entered a team from their Port Talbot branch into our 5-a-side charity football tournament which takes place this Sunday at Pencoed Comprehensive School.

The 12 hour football tournament is being hosted alongside a family fun day event that will raise money for disabled children’s charity, Y Bont, based in Bridgend.

Tata Steel’s team will be captained by Adam Burroughes and will be known as Tata Steelers, a strong name for an allegedly formidable team. The rest of the team members are:

    • Rory Healey
    • Joel Healey
    • Dion Wright
    • Dean Carpenter
    • Scott Morris

And this isn’t the first time the company has been involved in a charity event. Adam had the following to say:

“A few events the guys here have taken part in include: skydiving for Cancer Research UK, hair shaving for Children in Need and various sponsored cycle & swimming events for the British Heart Foundation. Over the years, we've been a keen bunch and are always happy to help out if it’s for charity.

The service that Y Bont provides for the children is incredible and something that really needs to be maintained. If there was ever a charity that deserves to be kept open, then Y Bont would be heading the list. They’re definitely a worthwhile charity to raise money for.”

When the conversation edged towards the football itself, it was clear to see that the Tata Steelers will be entering the tournament in high spirits and brimming with confidence.

“The other teams would be naïve to think we aren’t in it to win it. Who doesn’t want to hold that trophy as the winner? Do us a favour and scribe Tata Steel in it already – It will save you the bother at 8pm on Sunday! As for our tactics, we’ll be adopting the ‘10 year old birthday party’ formation with the combination of arms flailing as a defensive distraction…

Ultimately we don’t believe in trash talk…actions speak louder than words so you’ll have to watch out for us on Sunday!”

Tata Steelers will definitely be one of the teams to watch on Sunday. Along with several other mouth-watering fixtures, the tournament will be a massively entertaining spectacle.

So if you have a spare couple of hours, why not come on down? The family fun day is full of exciting activities, so not only can you have a tonne of fun but help a fantastic local charity while doing so!
